6. I have urged the Directors to floor with

wood not only the wards referred to, but also the four ground

floor wards in the older parts of the Hospital, i, e. of six

wards in all. This will probably be done early in the New

year.

7. See remarks regarding the treatment of

1

Fevers in my Report of the Quarter.

8. There is some confusion here between a

case of compound fracture that died of Tetanus on 26th.May

and a case of Tetanus due to a crushed finger that died on

23rd. September, a few weeks previous to the date of Princi-

pal Civil Medical Officer's minute. The latter, a sailor,

came in with the disease already well established, having

had tetanic symptoms for several days at sea, and would al-

most certainly have died under the most skilful European

treatment.

9. While there is not nominal control, there

is a considerable amount of real control, and I think it

would be a mistake to raise any question on this subject.

All the employees receive and obey orders from either Dr.

Chung or myself in a manner that is on the whole quite sa-

tisfactory.

31st. December, 1897.

(Sd.) John C. Thomson,

Visiting Surgeon.
